Special issue information:
Mass spectrometry is a crucial detection technique in metabolomics due to its versatility, sensitivity, and selectivity. These characteristics enable mass spectrometry to improve the detection coverage of analytical methods as well as the quantitative determination of metabolites. However, a suited optimization of all the steps of the analytical process is required to maximize the benefits of mass spectrometry.
The aim of this Talanta Special Issue on Metabolomics is to bring together experts from current innovations offered to enhance qualitative and quantitative analysis in this discipline. These innovations should include: (i) novel sampling procedures; (ii) sample preparation advances; and (iii) mass spectrometry acquisition modes, and they should show a significant improvement in the analytical features in metabolomics applications.
