Maturitas is planning a special issue onA global approach to healthy ageing. Increasing longevity in nearly all the countries around the world is unprecedented. For over 30 years there has been a call to maximize the longevity dividend and the world’s nations should encourage successful ageing. This raises many, as yet, unanswered questions. How do we view ageing in positive terms, what increase the chances of living healthier in our later years and what are some of the interventions used worldwide to maximize health ageing.
We are inviting (research and review) papers to address these issues from basic science to health and social care. We are particularly interested in the following topics:
The World Health Organization approach to Healthy Ageing
Genetic factors in ageing successfully
lifestyle factors associated with positive ageing
Exercise for a healthy old age
Is the size of a social network important for healthy ageing?
Diet and healthy ageing
Priorities for healthy ageing in low- and middle-income countries
Designing cities to promote healthy ageing
Managing the menopause for a healthier older age
Menopause and successful mental health ageing
Strategies for promoting cardiovascular health around the world
