Overview
Resilience engineering is an emerging paradigm for understanding and improving complex adaptive systems, such as clinical, nuclear power, aviation, and industrial environments. Complexity necessitates impromptu and flexible adaptation of the work system to achieve successful outcomes. However, resilience is not always inherent to a work system. Resilience engineering involves understanding the nature of adaptations, learning from success, and increasing adaptive capabilities. Credible attempts at moving resilience engineering from theory to practice have independently developed and tested practical tools geared towards resilience measurement; however, development of this evidence base has been slow.
The aim of the special issue is to provide new knowledge about a variety of contemporary issues in resilience theory and resilience engineering practice. Papers are invited on topics including, but not limited to:
Design of practical measuring tools geared towards resilience measurement
New advances in operationalizing resilience engineering concepts
New advances in the quantification of organizational or team resilience
New advances in documenting flexibility and adaptability of organization or team
