Overview
Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) is a vital and potentially effective technology to substantially decrease CO2emissions from the use of fossil fuels. There is an urgent need for research and development to deliver cost-effective CCUS technologies for the capture, conversion, utilization, transportation, and storage of CO2.
This Special Issue, which will highlight the technological developments and future opportunities, as well as the current status of CCUS technology options, will be of great value to engineers, scientists and decision makers working in academia, industry and government. It will help to accelerate advanced research and development on CCUS technologies, while emphasizing their challenges from a sustainable perspective. Recognizing the diverse nature of CCUS, we invite researchers to submit their high-quality review or original research papers that discuss fundamental processes and emerging strategies, field, laboratory, and modeling studies including, but not limited to, the following:
1. CO2 capture
1.1. Precombustion capture
1.2. Oxy-fuel combustion
1.3. Post-combustion capture
1.4. Chemical looping combustion and gasification
1.5. Negative Emission Technologies incl. bioenergy with CCS, direct
air capture
2. CO2 utilization and conversion
2.1. Fuels and chemicals
2.2. Biological pathways
2.3. Mineralization
2.4. Plastics
2.5. Food and beverages
3. CO2 storage
3.1. CO2 storage capacity and efficiency
3.2. CO2 storage within different geological formations
3.3. CO2 storage with enhanced fuel recovery (i.e. EOR, ECBM, EGR)
4. Others
4.1. CCUS Environmental impacts
4.2. CCUS risk assessment
4.3. Economics of CCUS
4.4. CCUS policy and regulation
4.5. Intelligent monitoring, planning and control of CCUS
