Overview
A Community on Ecosystem Services (ACES) will be held in 2018, with the theme Natural Resources Benefitting People and dedicated session Quantifying the Health Benefits of Nature. The international conference will be held in partnership with Ecosystem Markets and is the 10thyear of ACES, bringing together researchers and practitioners from professions involved with ecosystem services.
This Virtual Special Issue (VSI) includes papers presented at ACES 2018 and solicits papers from ecosystem and human health researchers, analysts, and policy/decision makers in academic, government, NGO and business sectors. Given that many environmental policies are primarily human health-focused, we anticipate that the linkage of ecosystem services to human health will foster new opportunities for improved management of ecosystems. Modelling ecosystem services and human health is an important and timely topic, given the primacy of protecting human health as the goal of many national and state laws. Furthermore, quantifying linkages between the condition of ecosystems and public health is becoming a focal priority for research within federal agencies and academia.
A VSI is an online-only collection of Special Issue articles traditionally assigned to a single Special Issue. Each article in a VSI is assigned a unique identifier and then published in a regular journal issue as soon as available. The unique identifier allows us to simultaneously add the article to a VSI on ScienceDirect and incrementally compose the VSI as individual articles are published online. Articles grouped in a VSI retain their original citation details. A VSI speeds up the publication of individual articles as, unlike the publication process for conventional Special Issue articles, a VSI does not need to wait for the final article to be ready before publication.
