Overview
Recent decades have evidenced exponential growth in the industrial biotechnology sector. Microbial processes are indispensable to meeting the growing demand for biofuels, renewable chemicals, enzymes, therapeutic molecules, and addressing the issues of environmental deterioration. However, the conventional microbial and enzymatic processes demand specific narrow range of operating conditions. These is a constant look out for technologies to overcome these limitations which would greatly help in cutting down the costs of bioprocesses. Thermophilic bioprocesses are realized to be promising options for developing robust bioprocesses for broad range of operating conditions. Thermophilic bioprocesses can utilize complex recalcitrant/broad range of substrates as feed stocks and offers high rates of catalysis and yield of products, ability. Thermophilic bioprocesses will be vital for developing systems that operate at extreme conditions such as in a deep underground environment.
This special issue aims to comprehensively discuss the recent scientific advancements in developing thermophilic bioprocesses and thermozymes for wide range of applications. The primary focus of this issue is to discuss the mechanisms in thermophiles relevant to degrading the recalcitrant materials, and higher rates of bioremediation or yield of industrially relevant products. This special issue will also discuss on designing and developing thermophilic processes, production and purification of thermozymes, strain improvement/protein engineering approaches for improving thermophilic processes, and biofilm engineering for thermophilic processes. Overall, the special issue will cover topics on developing thermophilic processes towards achieving sustainable energy, environment, and bioeconomy.
This special issue focuses on the latest developments on “Thermophiles for Bioprocesses and Products Development (TBPD)” and covers the following topics (but not limited to):
- Feed stocks for thermophilic processes
