Overview
Addictive Behaviors is now accepting submissions for a special issue, Third Wave Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies for Addictive Behaviours: Mechanisms, Moderators, and Treatment Development and Outcome. Third wave cognitive and behavioral therapies are treatments that target the process and evaluation of thoughts and emotions rather than their content as in traditional cognitive behavioral therapy. Third wave therapies have demonstrated efficacy for improving overall health and well-being among those suffering from emotional distress. Far less is understood about the potential of these therapies to effectively treat addictive behaviors, and what mechanisms and moderators may underline treatment effects.
The proposed special issue seeks to address limitations on the utility of third wave cognitive and behavioral therapies to treat addictive behaviors by encouraging systematic reviews and empirical research focused on this area of study. The special issue will fall along three core domains related to third wave cognitive and behavioral therapies for addictive behaviors: malleable mechanisms of action; moderators of treatment efficacy; and novel treatment development and outcomes. Although not exhaustive, third wave cognitive and behavioral therapies of particular interest include acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, functional analytic psychotherapy, and meta-cognitive therapy.
Original research submissions, methodological papers, and review papers will be considered.
