Overview
1. Motivation and Background
As a reliable, secure, distributed, transactional information systems technology, blockchain plays bigger and bigger role in various real applications requiring senseless exchanges in decentralized environments. Particularly, in the dawn of data industrialization, finding the right information from big data repositories kept as blockchain and extracting the knowledge to create value for business shall be the key challenges. This is primarily because of two reasons, firstly, due to the shift of data force from the enterprise to the individuals as the proprietary of the data shall rest with the individual and not with the corporations, and secondly, the single enterprise data as it exists today shall only be a fraction of a decentralized big data eco-system. The user-determined access control and the advent of an open or federated blockchain system, where data keeps its totality, solidity and immutability, gives rise to new challenges and opportunities in big data mining.
The traditional data mining techniques based on studying common behaviour are to be focussed on individual behaviour; the access-control is to dictate the openness of the future blockchain systems; and therefore, the nature of big data analytics as we know it today is to change dramatically. The integrity of data increases the confidence in training and test data and therefore, calls for new data mining algorithms designed to work with the blockchain data with an aim of improved accuracy.
2. Topics of Interest
The special issue aims to bring together practitioners and researchers with a specific focus on the emerging trends and industry needs associated with blockchain systems for decentralized mining. Both theoretical and experimental submissions are encouraged.
Papers should elaborate on data mining for blockchain, issues associated to privacy and security in blockchain, visualization, efficient decentralized mining tools, and novel applications or systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Theories of mining blockchain systems
- Decentralized schemes for blockchain data mining
- Distributed ledger for data analytics
- Light-weight consensus on resource-limited smart devices
- Security and privacy in blockchain
- Blockchain in social networking
- Blockchain in crowdsourcing and crowdsensing
- Mining information flows in blockchain
- Mining dynamic negotiation systems
- Mining smart contracts and financial transactions
- Anomaly detection
- Trust issues in blockchain
- Novel applications in domains including finance, supply chain and healthcare
- Visions on blockchain systems for decentralized mining
