Overview
Across the globe, energy systems are becoming increasingly complex and interconnected creating unprecedented challenges to the utility industry. The development of cost-effective, secure and sustainable renewable and/or alternative energy solutions requires new approaches for demand/supply management, optimisation and control. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and computational intelligence are powerful tools for learning and adaptation, reasoning and planning, autonomy and creativity and have the potential to become the enabling technologies for the future challenges facing energy industry throughout its low carbon journey.
With AI adoption, energy systems will have distributed intelligence and automation at all levels, which allows real-time data to be analysed instantly to make on-the-spot decisions and optimize energy flows according to the infrastructure resources and constraints. In addition, the concept of "Big Data" driven by the ever-expanding computational power of the new generation of high performance computers, will provide new insights into demand management, load control and energy storage management for improved economics, security and reliability of the power grid.
This special issue aims to consolidate ongoing research in this emerging multidisciplinary area and provide an opportunity for specialists in electrical and energy systems and data analytics, computer science, algorithms and models of artificial intelligence to combine their knowledge and intellectual potential for the benefit of the society and industry.
The topics of interest are strictly limited to:
- Smart Cities and Smart Grid
- Smart Home, Smart Mobility and Smart Community
